Ted Carpenter was an assistant professor of anthropology at the University of Toronto from 1948-when he met McLuhan-to 1958. Together, they founded the magazine Explorations (1953-1959), with Carpenter as editor and McLuhan as associate editor. From Toronto, Carpenter moved to California State U., Northridge, and later joined McLuhan at Fordham University, New York when he was there in 1967-68. Later, Carpenter was a professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He is now V.P. of the Rock Foundation, New York.
